Liposuction in Ottawa
Liposuction is a surgical procedure used to remove stubborn areas of fat underneath the skin. Sometimes it is done on its own to improve the contours of a body part. Other times it is added to a separate surgical procedure to take the aesthetic results to the next level. Results with liposuction are permanent. As long as patients maintain their body weight, the results should not change significantly over time.
Dr. Ian MacArthur is a Top Rated, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Ottawa who can help you achieve the aesthetic results you desire.

Is Liposuction Right For Me?

What is liposuction?
It is only able to remove fat that is present between the skin and the underlying muscles. If someone is interested in using liposuction to lose weight, other specific weight loss surgeries should be considered instead.
The overlying skin must have a good tone and elasticity to achieve an excellent liposuction result. This is because skin does not tighten after a liposuction procedure. For example, if a patient has extra abdominal skin following a pregnancy or weight loss, a tummy tuck would be a better option than liposuction alone.
Common areas treated with liposuction include the chest, abdomen, hips, back, and thighs. Liposuction in these areas can provide a slim, beautiful contour that would not have been possible with diet and exercise alone.

Types of Liposuction Techniques:
The Procedure
It can last 1 to 4 hours and is done as day surgery, meaning patients can go home afterward on the same day. Surgery takes place at either a hospital or a private surgical facility.
Most patients take one week off of work after liposuction surgery. All patients are required to wear a compression garment for four weeks after surgery. This is done to allow the skin to heal smoothly in place and to control swelling. Final results after liposuction can be seen 6 months after surgery.
