Ear Surgery in Ottawa
Aesthetic Ear Surgery most commonly means bringing the ears closer to the side of the head so they don’t stick out. The medical term for this procedure is an “otoplasty,” although most people better know it as ear pinning. Otoplasty surgery aims to correct prominent ears, so they don’t draw attention from the rest of the face. While this surgery is often performed for pediatric patients, it is common for adults to undergo this procedure to improve the cosmetic appearance of their ears.
Dr. Ian MacArthur is a Top Rated, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Ottawa who can help you achieve the aesthetic results you desire.

Causes of Ear Prominence

The Procedure
The procedure involves making a hidden incision on the back of the ear, followed by placing permanent sutures that strengthen the shape of the ear and hold it closer to the scalp. Cartilage may also be removed with this procedure to help maintain the ear’s position. Finally, the incisions are closed with dissolving sutures, and bandages are applied.
Recovery from otoplasty surgery generally takes 3 to 4 weeks. After the bandages are removed one week following surgery, patients are asked to wear a headband at night for 4 to 6 weeks. A headband is recommended to protect the ears while sleeping to avoid accidental injury.
