What is an Arm Lift?
Arm lift surgery is a safe and effective treatment to remove all excess skin in the upper arm. This procedure results in a scar that runs from the elbow to the armpit and sometimes along the side of the chest. The forearms are not treated. The location of the brachioplasty scar resides on the inside of the arm, towards the back. After a full year of maturation, arm lift scars typically look like faint, thin lines that blend in with the rest of the arm skin.
If arm lift surgery is being considered after significant weight loss, a patient’s weight needs to be stable for at least 6 months before surgery. This is required to avoid wound-healing complications.
The Procedure
This procedure is done as day surgery, meaning patients may go home once they have recovered from the anesthetic. There are large, compressive dressings present on each upper arm. No drains are required with this surgery.
Patients typically take 1 to 2 weeks off work, depending on their job. There is to be no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for 4 weeks after surgery to allow the incisions to heal.
