What is Eyelid Surgery?
The medical term for aesthetic Eyelid Surgery is Blepharoplasty, which can be performed simultaneously on the upper lids, lower lids, or all four (upper and lower) eyelids.
As we age, several predictable changes may occur. Patients sometimes complain about excess upper eyelid skin that makes them look tired or older. Other patients are concerned about unwanted bags under their eyes or wrinkles.
Older surgical techniques were focused on aggressively removing tissue to restore youthfulness. Unfortunately, this could leave patients with a hollow, unnatural look.

The Procedure
Blepharoplasty can be performed either under local anesthetic (meaning that the patient is awake) or under general anesthetic (the patient is put to sleep by an anesthetist), depending on the surgical plan and the patient's preferences. Surgery may take place at a private surgery center or hospital, and procedure length typically lasts from 1 to 3 hours.
The recovery period takes approximately 3 to 4 weeks, although most patients feel comfortable in public around week two. All medications that may be required are provided ahead of surgery so that when patients leave the surgery center, they will have everything in place for relaxation and recovery. Follow-up care at the clinic generally starts one-week post procedure, where sutures are removed, and incision healing is assessed.
